Fewer construction permits issued in 2009 - report

The National Statistics Institute has recorded a reduction in real estate construction permits in the third quarter of 2009, Dnevnik daily said on November 23 2009.
In the third quarter of 2009, municipal authorities across the country approved and issued permits for 1783 residential buildings with a total of 509 units, which is a 2.7 per cent drop from the preceding trimester and a 35 per cent drop on the corresponding period in 2008. In spite of that, the actual number of units on offer in the third quarter increased by 15.6 in relation to the second quarter in 2009, NSI said in a media statement. Still, the number of new flats completed fell by 60.5 per cent on 2008 levels.
Growth in the second quarter of 2009 was reported in permits pertaining to construction for administrative and "other non-residential buildings", accounting for a rise of 3.3 and 11.1 per cent respectively. On an annual basis, however, these figures indicate a three per cent decline for administrative buildings and an 11.5 per cent drop in "other buildings". The largest amount of new residential and non-residential building permits in 2009 so far were issued in the Black Sea city of Varna - a total of 204 - and the fewest in the northern city of Vidin – four.
